I don't know, I've just always thought that Westins thought they were nicer than they actually are. First impressions are usually pretty good (maybe it's that "clean linen" smell they pump into all their hotels). But I always seem to find that they are always a little beaten up behind the curtains. Stained carpet, uncomfortable chairs, noisy air conditioner, it's... more

The hotel staff were friendly- check in and concierge were both pleasant and easy experiences. The hotel layout is a bit confusing. Our king room included a chaise lounge and a chair and a desk. Decent sized, we had a view of the mountains (or do they call them hills in Southern CA?) I sat out by the outdoor pool... more

We booked via priceline into the lowest category of room for $124, an approximate 38% savings off the lowest available rate. At check-in I upgraded to the Senator's Suite, one of 4 specialty bi-level suites at the property. After a quick 2 minute negotiation and approval by the manager, the $1500 suite was given to us for only a $500... more

I booked this hotel before I read the reviews and was apprehensive about what I would find. The Westin Gaslamp exceeded my expectations that were based on negative reviews I had read. The King room on the 12th floor was quiet, clean and had a view of the bay. Elevators were all functional and there was never more than a... more

My family and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The staff is friendly and helpful, but the hotel is in need of an update. The lobby is not bad but the the room shows a lot of wear and tear. For the mid $200 price range I expect better. I would not stay here again. more

What an absolute let down. There is a difference between feeling clean and being clean. The room may have been clean but it didn't feel it. Musty smell, dark furniture, huge stain on the carpet, torn light shade, marked tables. Then the bathroom...plastic cups (not very green!) and one dressing gown. We asked to change room and the one as... more

I attended a Medical Conference at this hotel between September 25th and 27th. The rooms are small but immaculate; the Westin's "Heavenly Bed" is truly as good as home *or better! Although the walls are thin, there was no outside noise that disturbed us. I did complain about our non-draining bathtub twice, but it was never repaired. The Pavillion (4th... more

The location was great and the lobby was one of a four start hotel-but the room certainly was not. No views of the water, the TV had to be fom the early 90's, there were holes in the carpet and the "heavenly" bed was a joke. The mattress cover shifted all over the place and the pillows were pretty worn... more

This is advertised as a 4-star hotel. It is not, it may have been at one time - it no longer is today. Here are some things you should expect from your stay: 1. NOISE. The walls are paper thin. I could hear everything the people next door were doing. There were some parties going on the first night I... more

Attracted by an amazing inclusive rate online, well below the hotel's own site 'best' rate, I booked for 7 days at short notice for a business trip to San Diego. Rate was around $150 incl breakfast & taxes. This is a hotel where location is differentiating feature; close to shops, in the centre of town, a few short blocks to... more
