Ojo del Mar ("eye of the sea"), is a small, eco-friendly secluded retreat nestled between the pristine beaches and the tropical rainforest in the wilds of Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula. Ojo del Mar has capacious spaces in its main Casa Grande (restaurant) with hardwood floors and a thatched roof bamboo construction, solar powered, all built by hand without power tools. We have 5 cabins and 2 deluxe tent cabins. Ojo del Mar's building concept follows a calling that is environmentally and socially responsible. more » « less

had a wonderful stay at the Ojo del mar - the place is put together and run with a lot of care and attention... the owners were great - they organized trips, gave directions, dispensed advice and served us great food and drinks! we turned a 1 night stay into 5 nights. highly recomend it! more

We agree with all the reviews which describe this place as a wonderful experience 'getting back to nature'. The cabinas are open to the rainforest and you sleep under mosquito nets with the sound of the forest around you. The food was excellent every evening. You need to remember to take a torch as there's no electricity in the cabinas.... more

My favorite part of my 2 week trip to Costa Rica despite the ornery owners. The location is off the beaten track. The vision for the place is right on...sustainable living, healthy food, beautiful surroundings ...too bad the owners are rude and unpleasant. If you can put up with their unfriendly attitudes, then you will have a very nice stay. more

Even if the location is really great we would not recommend staying here. The owners are far from friendly and make you feel rather uncomfortable. And the organization is really poor. Somehow our reservation didn’t work out and we had to sleep in a tent. The next day we asked the owner if she could organize a lesson for surfing... more

The food and facility construction were very nice. Location on the beach is nice. However, the owner and staff were unresponsive at best to our needs. Simple things like where do we put trash? (they don't have any trash cans for guests) receive a difficult response. With no electricity, additional candles for the cabins would be welcome. A bed sheet... more

My partner and I loved our stay at Ojo del Mar. The thatch roof, sustainably constructed huts were wonderful and felt very secluded. Showering outdoors every day was an absolute treat, as was the atmosphere and the breakfasts and dinners our hosts provided (the dinners, organic and flavorful, were food for the soul as well as the body). The sound... more

Great place with very nice owners. Our two teenagers and our 8-years old found this place to be the best part of the whole trip. The experience of staying in open houses out in the jungle with only candle lights was really unique. The atsmosphere at the place was really great and friendly among all the guest. The food was... more

To begin with, I have traveled to many places, including ALL OVER Costa Rica. This was a highlight of my travels in Costa Rica. I was on a backpacking trip this past April and my friend and I didn't have reservations. When we arrived at the property just to see if they had space, we were so amazed on how... more

The place is beautiful, well kept and clean. I would recommend it if you like an extremely close contact with nature as at night there's only a mosquito net between you and all the living beings of the jungle, and if you don't mind a very unwelcoming owner!Over the length of our stay we got more attention and warmth from... more

This is a great way to get a "jungle" experience and not have to pay the couple of hundred dollars more per night that the high end resorts charge. We enjoyed every moment of our stay there. The beach is a bit rocky for our taste but there is a good beach a short walk away. Enjoy the monkeys, macaws,... more
