The Hotel d'Amsterdam was exactly what I needed. In a city full of otherwise either very expensive or potentially quite seedy hotels, the room was exceptionally clean, seemed to be in a safe neighborhood and was a decent overall value. Spent two nights - bad sound isolation, owners don't get out of their skin to help you. They like your money though. Owners don't reply by e-mail. Breakfast is pretty bad choice, the next morning we got bread from previous day. Good thing there is a computer in the lobby - 15 min surf is free more

Excellent location, a couple blocks off the tram line but it makes it a quiet night. Room size seemed bigger than typical European budget hotel, and it had a mini-fridge. This hotel is centrally located. You can walk to it from the Eurorail, walk to the Anne Frank haus, and everywhere else.
