My stay was extremely unpleasant. Was informed by the staff that they have had many bedbug issues in the recent past. Not surprising, when you consider that they don't change the sheets after every guest! They merely sweep off the hair and skin bits with a brush rather than give fresh sheets. A staff member told me they only change... more

I will start out by saying this is not the fanciest hostel I've ever stayed at. Don't expect anything beyond basic. Balmer's is my favorite hostel because it is so fun. There are many young people staying there, the metro club is great, and the staff is quite helpful about booking excursions. My three days at Balmer's are among the... more

After a couple of weeks of B&B's, pensions, and cheap hotels in France and Italy, me and two friends decided to go a very different route and stay in, basically, the best "party hostel" I could ask for. The atmosphere was relaxed during the day hours, and a huge great party at night. I was there two nights and it... more

We stayed there on two separate occasions during our three week vacation in europe. The first stay was for one night (the first night we were in switzerland). It was on a tuesday. We got there around 11pm. Our room was exactly what we reserved, a double private, shared bathroom. Very cozy, the beds were comfortable and the room was... more

My wife and I stayed at Balmers on our "Month in Europe". We stayed in "Tent City". It was OUTSTANDING! We pulled into Interlaken with an Air Force Buddy stationed in Germany. After a stint in Korea and The Desert... all he wanted was HOOTERS! WE complied, then wandered around for a place to sleep. LUCKY US! Being in our... more

My friend and I (two females) were doing a road trip through Switzerland, and decided to stay with Balmer's Herberge through the Lonely Planet Guide, and am so glad we did! The hostel was fantastic! We were there Sat & Sun, 6th & 7th October and had a fantastic time! The staff were very helpful and full of fun. They... more

We've stayed in the main Hostel. Lovely home-like atmosphere. Vehicle parking provided is far from hostel at the Tent village. Shuttle service are available. Garden was the main attraction in the summer time, with light meals, beers and other beverages been sold. Expect the normal hostel culture of banging doors and noise in the passages till late. The wooden floors... more

It has been a while since my stay at Balmer's, but I thought I should write about how fantastic it was. I took the overnight train to Interlaken from Italy for 3 days of my summer in Europe. It was without a doubt my favorite place we travelled to. We stayed in the cheapest room--16 beds!!! But it was only... more

This place is overrated. It is not as fun as hostels like the Flying Pig in Amsterdam, Kabul in Barcelona, etc. It's above average in a lot of ways, but was disappointing because I thought it would be incredible. On the bright side, the hostel is very clean. It even has clean spring water running on a foutain outside that... more

First of all, Interlaken itself is an absolute gem. It would be hard to be disappointed with anything in that town. Balmer's has a relaxed atmosphere with plenty to do. I was able to go on a "Canyoning" excursion while staying there which was an outdoorsman's dream come true. I was able to meet many fellow travellers from all over... more
